By studying the processes that shape the Earth, humans can prepare for their impact

Different Movie Shots and Techniques

Motion shots:
  • Pan
  • Tilt
  • Arc
  • Pedestal
  • Zoom

Sequences use different types of shots:
  • Long Shot
  • Medium Shot
  • Close Up
  • 1-2-3 Shot Sequence

Shooting and Editing Techniques
  • Create excitement by adding short shots together
  • Use dissolve to create the impression of a change of time and place
  • Avoid Jump Cuts
  • Consider different interview techniques when filming dialogue (eg over the shoulder shots)
  • Be careful not to cross the Action Line when shooting

A beautifully designed site with wonderful graphics from the University of Michigan. There are 3 reading levels and plenty of activities for students. Topics covered include Our Planet, Our Solar System, Myths, Space Missions and an excellent Fun and Games section which includes an on-line colouring book and an activity to make your own alien.

This site contains a News section which provides information about the latest space explorations. In the Solar System section you can click on the sun, a planet etc. This section is perfect for student research. and includes incredible photos of the planets. The Space Exploration section provides a history of all space missions to date. In the Space Dictionary you can find out what all the space terms mean.
